I am a newer photographer myself and I can agree with all of the points you made. For me personally, I can say having my camera with me at all times and regularly taking photos have been the most helpful for me You never know what photo opportunities await you, so by having your camera available, you’ll have the opportunity to capture the moment.

I would also like to mention that if, after reading this great post, if anyone is interested in camera bags, I built a website for a graduate class where I provide reviews for several different bags. You can find a link to it at https://www.reddit.com/user/PhotogRob69/comments/niq2s8/find_the_latest_camera_bag_reviews/,

Thanks Caz. These are some good ideas. I was just looking for “next steps” and learning the basics of aperture, shutter speed and ISO. I am wanting to focus on technique and not on equipment using what I have at the moment (Canon 300D dslr)

HI Ron, I don’t think there is any one particular list of photos a beginner should take.
It really depends what you want to learn. For example, you can set up a still life with some depth of objects to teach yourself how aperture works. You could take photos of cars driving by to teach you about shutter speed and how slow or fast shutter speeds give you motion or freeze the car.

Hope that helps 🙂

Trying to learn the basics and learn the camera settings as well.
