Where in the article is mention of bokeh, circles of confusion or examples of these? The misunderstanding is not manifested in the article.

The consistent answer is aperture with no mention of any other factors that will effect the depth of field. This is a fantastic article that truly highlights all determining factors and I love that you listed the reasons for having a blurred background or a sharp background. Fantastic article!

This is a useful guide for beginners but appears to be predicated on “beginners” having a reasonably advanced camera….perhaps APSC or Full frame or film based on the aperture values quoted.

However, it is likely most beginners will have smaller sensor camera down to 1 2/3. It would be far more relateable and meaningful for most beginners to address DOF from the smaller sensor camera point of view.

Sure shallow DOF isn’t quite so easy to achieve with a small sensor and may be less dramatic but is entirely possible.

The basic principles are the same so what works with the small sensor cameras will of course work with larger sensors too.

The only affect focal length has on the depth of field is to make it appear to be reduced or increased because it magnifies or decreases magnification of the background making it appear different but in reality, the depth of field remains the same.

Hi,you will use a base iso[100]. And use a small focal number and a lastge aperture to give you a shallow dof
